Journalist Alex Crook has suggested that supporters and players from one Premier League club will be outraged if a key man, targeted by Newcastle United, is allowed to leave in January.
Chelsea have had a very slow start to the season but have began to build a bit of momentum in the last month or so climbing above Newcastle in the Premier League table.
A lot of that is down to the efforts of Conor Gallagher who Newcastle have admired for some time now, and Crook, speaking on talkSPORT, thinks there will be ‘uproar’ from the stands and dressing room if he is sold.
Newcastle target still on the market
At this point, nothing Chelsea do will surprise anyone anymore after proving to have one of the strangest and most confusing transfer strategies of the modern footballing era.
Fans of the West London club have already grown frustrated not only at their business off the pitch but also with their disjointed performances on it.
Selling someone like Gallagher, a homegrown player who has been at the club for 16 years and arguably their most crucial performer this season, may just tip the fans’ anger over the edge.
Crook has explained how he expects the Newcastle target to still be Chelsea’s story of this window, but is unsure if anyone will be willing to pay the £50m that the Blues are demanding.
“The story of this window as far as Chelsea is concerned is building already and I think it will continue right until 11pm on deadline day, Conor Gallagher. Will anybody put down the £50 million to sell him?
If they did sell him I think there would be uproar, not just in the dressing room, but in the terraces as well.”

Gallagher would be ideal candidate for Newcastle and Howe
Newcastle are crying out for a new midfielder following Joelinton’s season-ending injury and Eddie Howe is known to be a big fan of Gallagher who is putting in solid performances this season.
Gallagher’s hard working attitude all over the pitch and his ability to track back as well as drive the team forwards is exactly the kind of midfielder Howe often looks for, slightly similar to Joelinton’s role for example.
It’s unlikely that anything will come of Newcastle’s interest this month given his price tag and the fact that the Magpies don’t really have much money to play with, but the 23-year-old is still one to watch for the future.
There may be a move made in the summer as Newcastle look to add quality in depth, but for now all seems quiet on this front.
