Newcastle United may not be finished shopping for midfielders just yet as transfer insider Dean Jones shares that the Magpies have tabled an offer for £50million Chelsea star.

Eddie Howe is reportedly a big admirer of Chelsea‘s Conor Gallagher and despite it being widely known that the England midfielder does not want to leave Chelsea there’s no guarantee that he will stay at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are about to welcome the signing of Harvey Barnes from Leicester City but that doesn’t seem to have made Howe turn his attention away from Gallagher.

Dean Jones claims Newcastle have an offer on the table for Gallagher

Dean Jones spoke about Gallagher on the Rank FC Ultras Podcast (via The Boot Room) saying: “Conor Gallagher has been linked to West Ham. He is a name that has been thrown in there, my information on Gallagher is that he doesn’t want to leave Chelsea at all, but if he has to leave he will consider it.

Everton and Newcastle both have tabled offers, he is very aware of what he would get if he went to either of those clubs.”

Chelsea rate Gallagher at £50million according to reports but what the offers on the table from Everton and Newcastle are is unknown but I doubt they’re anywhere near £50million.

Pochettino may want to clear more players off his huge Chelsea squad list

Gareth Southgate also rates Conor Gallagher highly praising his mindset and calling him ‘fantatstic‘ which won’t help when it comes to asking Chelsea to lower their valuation.

Given that Gallagher, who scored against Wrexham in the US last night, wants to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea it’s going to be extremely difficult to get a deal done for the 23-year-old, but there could still be scope for Newcastle to pick him up on a season-long loan to clear Mauricio Pochettino‘s options a bit as he gets to grips with the enormous squad he has inherited.

I’m taking this one with a pinch of salt, but I do believe Gallagher would be a great addition to Newcastle’s squad even if it is just for a season on loan.
