Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Antonee Robinson this summer look like they are fading.
Eddie Howe is keen to add a new left-back to his squad ahead of next season, and there have been rumours over a move for Robinson.
The USA international’s contract is set to expire in 2024, which meant this summer was the time for Fulham to sell if he was not going to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.
It was previously stated that Robinson was not going to sign a new deal with Fulham, which increased Newcastle’s chances of bringing him to St James’ Park.
However, it appears that the defender has had a change of heart.

Antonee Robinson set to sign new Fulham contract
According to the Athletic, Robinson is now very close to signing a new contract with Fulham. They state that he is going to commit his long-term future to the West London club.
That is a blow for Newcastle, who will have to take their left-back search elsewhere.
Robinson would not have been a marquee arrival had he signed for the Magpies, but he would have provided great competition for Dan Burn and Matt Targett. He could even have proved himself to be a starter, with the ‘under the radar’ 25-year-old recently praised for his defensive ability.
Instead, Robinson will continue with Fulham, while Newcastle will continue to search for more depth in defence.

Unclear what is next for Newcastle
Talk of a left-back arriving has gone slightly quiet, with no update on the Magpies’ pursuit of Kieran Tierney from Arsenal. There were also rumours about AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez, but a deal for the Frenchman always felt fanciful.
It is unclear what Newcastle’s next move in the transfer market will be after the Sandro Tonali deal. It looked like defence was going to be the focus, with talks over a deal for Tino Livramento.
However, that transfer appears to be stalling, while talk ramps up over Harvey Barnes heading to Tyneside.
There is a lot of uncertainty when it comes to the Toon transfer window, but it now appears all but certain that Antonee Robinson is not going to be on his way to St James’ Park.
