Transfer specialist shares Newcastle’s stance on Barcelona starlet Marc Casado, it includes Lewis Miley

Reports this week have linked Newcastle United with a move for a Barcelona wonderkid Marc Casado.

Newcastle United are expected to be busy over the January transfer window, although the budget could once again be shrunk by Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell pushed hard to sign Marc Guehi in the summer but failed. Plans to sign a centre-back have now been pushed back and a new right winger is now the priority.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is Newcastle’s “dream” target, but the Bees are holding out for a price tag of more than £40m.

A winger is at the very top of the shopping list, but fresh reports this week have cited Newcastle as admirers of a young central midfielder.

Newcastle United linked with Barcelona’s Marc Casado

According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle United “appreciate” Barcelona wonderkid Marc Casado.

The 21-year-old midfielder is beginning to catch the attention of Premier League clubs after breaking through to Barca’s first team under Hansi Flick.

The report claims that Casado “has caught the eye of Man United and Liverpool scouts” but that Newcastle are also an interested party keeping an eye on the young Spaniard.

Casado came through Barcelona’s infamous La Masia academy and has now made 18 senior appearances for the Catalan giants. However, he is contracted to Barca until 2028 so would likely command a big transfer fee.

Newcastle United stance on signing Marc Casado

Eddie Howe has admitted that central midfield is Newcastle’s strongest position across his entire squad.

He is already struggling to find the right balance in midfield with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Sandro Tonali, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock all fighting for starting spots.

Youngster Lewis Miley has also returned from injury and will hope to challenge for a spot in Howe’s plans.

Transfer specialist Graeme Bailey spoke exclusively to Geordie Boot Boys about Newcastle’s links to Casado, and he has cleared up the club’s transfer stance.

“It’s not an area of midfield that Newcastle are looking at, I know that,” Bailey said.

“They’ve got Lewis Miley, Tonali’s come back. He’s not a free agent, he’s not out of contract, he’s not one for especially for Newcastle.”

That clears things up. Newcastle are already stacked in midfield and have an extremely exciting prospect of their own in the shape of Lewis Miley. Casado is simply not needed, and will not be arriving in January.
