It looks like Tottenham Hotspur could steal a march on Newcastle United for a player who Eddie Howe has wanted for a long time.
The Magpies are long-term admirers of Conor Gallagher, and it was recently reported that he remains a player who the club like as they continue to search for a new midfielder.
The 24-year-old Chelsea player has been linked with Newcastle United for a long time, and very nearly moved to St James’ Park in January 2023. However, Chelsea blocked a deal from taking place.
Now the Blues might have to sell Gallagher, with his contract due to expire in 2025. They have a similar situation to the one we are experiencing with Joelinton, and it could allow Newcastle to potentially grab a bargain.
However, it is Tottenham who are making the first move.

The latest on Newcastle transfer target Conor Gallagher
According to the Telegraph, Tottenham are going to bid for Conor Gallagher this summer if he does not sign a new contract with Chelsea.
The report states that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will make him a contract offer, but there are no guarantees he will accept it and extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
If he does not, the Blues will probably be forced to cash in this summer, with Spurs waiting in the wings. You have to imagine Newcastle will be sniffing around too, especially given the direction his valuation is going in.
The Telegraph add that his transfer value is only going down as his contract gets closer to expiring, with his value in the summer potentially being as little as £30million.
That is obviously still a lot of money, but it is a lot less than what he was previously worth. Newcastle have been told in the past that Gallagher will cost £50million.
Now his valuation is decreasing, and it looks like a move away from Chelsea could be on the cards. But will Newcastle signal their intent? We shall find out when the summer transfer window opens.
