Newcastle United are going to address their midfield situation in the summer, and that could lead to them targeting a player who has been relentlessly linked with the Magpies in years gone by.
A Conor Gallagher to Newcastle United rumour is never far away, and he is someone who the club have been trying to sign since the Steve Bruce days.
As the Magpies progress and grow under Eddie Howe, talk of Gallagher continues to resurface.
This time last year, the 23-year-old was denied the chance to move to Tyneside. He was interested in a transfer, but Chelsea would not allow it.
Since then, the rumours have not been quite as intense, but he continues to be a player who is admired in the North East.
Newcastle like Conor Gallagher
According to the Athletic, Conor Gallagher is a midfielder who Newcastle are fans of as they prepare to address that position in the summer.
It could be an important transfer window when it comes to the Newcastle midfield, as it remains to be seen if Bruno Guimaraes will remain on Tyneside heading into next season. There are also question marks alongside Joelinton’s name amid his ongoing contract situation.
If one of them were to leave, Newcastle will definitely need a new midfielder, and Gallagher is someone who they are fans of. And he could actually be available.

Chelsea are likely to sell him this summer
In another article by the Athletic, they report that it is unlikely that Gallagher will be a Chelsea player next season.
They believe that he is likely to leave, which is largely down to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. Selling him would be considered ‘pure profit’, as he is a product of their academy.
That looks like it will lead to Gallagher’s departure, so do not be surprised to see him linked with Newcastle again when we get closer to the summer transfer window.
Whether or not he would be a good signing at St James’ Park is up for debate, but he certainly looks like an Eddie Howe player.
