The reason why Newcastle are under even more pressure to get Marc Guehi deal done

Newcastle United are aiming to complete a deal to sign Marc Guehi, and there is now even more reason to press ahead with negotiations.

The Magpies continue to be heavily linked with Marc Guehi, with Newcastle United having three bids rejected for the 24-year-old.

However, it could be fourth time lucky for Toon officials. Newcastle have made a fourth offer for Guehi, and the belief is that a breakthrough could be on the horizon.

Crystal Palace are looking to receive £65million for Guehi, and this offer is close to that figure. It could be the one that brings the England international to Tyneside.

That will delight fans, and it will delight Toon legend Alan Shearer. He has predicted how the Magpies will do this season, and Shearer thinks Newcastle can finish fourth if they sign Guehi.

Newcastle’s Marc Guehi alternative could soon be unavailable

Guehi would be a statement signing for Newcastle, but the club have been looking at alternatives if an agreement with Crystal Palace is not possible.

One of those is Malick Thiaw, who was heavily rumoured to be joining Eddie Howe’s side before the interest in Guehi emerged.

The 22-year-old has been seen as the likely backup option if the Guehi deal collapses, but he might not be available for much longer.

That is according to HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about how Thiaw could soon be off the market following interest from Newcastle.

“The interesting thing with Malick Thiaw is that AC Milan are close to finalising a deal for Pierre Kalulu to go to Juventus,” he said.

“If that happens, my understanding is that Thiaw could no longer be available.

“Newcastle’s interest is still there. They obviously still like Thiaw. But if Guehi does not join Newcastle and then they come back to Thiaw, the for sale sign may no longer be in place at AC Milan.

“Kalulu is pretty close to joining Juventus. So I would be surprised if Thiaw was still available.”

Joachim Andersen unlikely to be a factor for Newcastle

Another factor in Newcastle’s centre-back pursuit has been the situation regarding Joachim Andersen.

He has been targeted by Fulham, with both of Crystal Palace’s top centre-backs linked with leaving.

Steve Parish recently stated that Palace will not sell both Guehi and Andersen, which suggested that Newcastle would need to get a move on to land Guehi before Fulham could agree a price for Andersen.

However, Bailey does not expect Andersen to return to Craven Cottage for a second spell with Fulham.

“Fulham have bid for him, but I do not think that it is likely that he leaves Crystal Palace,” he said.

I think he’s more likely to get a new contract.”

That is good news for Newcastle, but only if they can complete a deal for Guehi. If not, their backup option in Thiaw may no longer be available.

However, there is suddenly renewed positivity that Marc Guehi will become a Newcastle United player before the summer transfer window closes on August 30th.
