The transfer window is not officially open, yet Newcastle United are already having to play down rumours.

Newcastle want at least three signings, but are yet to make any major moves ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Talk of Joan Garcia joining Newcastle has been disputed, after it had been claimed in Spain that the Magpies were set to activate the Espanyol goalkeeper’s release clause.

There have also been suggestions of deals for players at the other end of the pitch, as Newcastle United prepare to sign a new striker.

Newcastle United react to Victor Boniface claim

That has resulted in speculation that Eddie Howe is trying to bring Victor Boniface to St James’ Park from Bayer Leverkusen.

Africa Foot reported earlier in May that the Magpies were in talks to sign the Nigerian striker for £42million.

However, this claim has been massively played down by people inside St James’ Park according to the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards.

Edwards took to X to clear up the Boniface to Newcastle United situation, writing: “Newcastle United are not currently discussing a move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface and are mystified by reports they are actively pursuing the player. The German club are desperate to sell the Nigeria international and it seems Newcastle’s name being used to drum up interest.”

Newcastle United still chasing Liam Delap deal

While Newcastle United are not trying to bring Boniface to Tyneside, they are set to speak to a striker about making the move.

It has been reported that Newcastle will hold talks with Liam Delap this week, as they aim to complete the £30million signing of the Ipswich Town striker.

A deal for the 22-year-old would represent excellent value, while Newcastle think Delap and Alexander Isak can play together at St James’ Park.

However, it currently feels unlikely that the club’s theory will be put to the test.

Geordie Boot Boys understand that Delap is favouring a move to Manchester United, despite interest from the Magpies and Chelsea.

Elsewhere, the Northern Echo claim that Newcastle’s recruitment team knows it will be a challenge for them to sign the forward ahead of other suitors.
