Newcastle United have seen their key players being linked with moves away for what feels like an age now.

In the early days of the PIF era at Newcastle, the focus was largely on what exciting players were going to come into the club.

Still, with PSR limitations in play, the prospect of losing a leading player emerged last January.

The club reportedly need to sell before they can start buying again, albeit it’s not thought they need to let an elite star go as soon as next month’s transfer window.

A number of top stars have been linked away. Of those, Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon all stand out.

Gordon was reportedly close to a move to Liverpool last summer but has since signed a new contract. Manchester City continue to be linked with Guimaraes, while Isak’s agents will reportedly look for a move away should Newcastle not reach the Champions League.

There is no suggestion any of them are actively pushing to leave of course but the nature of the PSR situation will likely see the links continue.

Still, as miserable as all that is to imagine, journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an interesting update.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, transfer expert Jacobs revealed that the star trio have their futures at St James’ Park intertwined and that there was not likely to be a case where all three are sold.

He did, however, suggest a big sale of some sort may be necessary.

“I’m still told that Newcastle may have to lose a big star out of financial necessity, especially if they don’t get European football,” he said.

“But I’m also told that the futures of Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak will be intertwined, and it’s very unlikely that Newcastle, even if forced to, would lose more than one of those names.”

Why Newcastle’s elite players have been unsettled this season

Things are going well on the pitch right now and the prospect of qualifying for next season’s Champions League does not look as remote as it did a few weeks ago.

Again, there is little to suggest that any of Newcastle’s star players are going out of their way to push for moves. There have, however, been claims that some of the elite players have been unsettled at times this season, knowing they could get paid more elsewhere at clubs who regularly challenge for honours.
