Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Mason Mount from Chelsea, and pundit Simon Jordan believes the midfielder will be sold this summer.
Mount‘s future is up in the air, as talks stall over a new contract. His current deal expires in 2024, with Newcastle reportedly keeping an eye on the situation.
90min have claimed that the Magpies are one of multiple Premier League clubs who are tracking Mount, in the hope that he becomes available.
That certainly could happen, with no progress being made on the England international signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge. Wages are an issue, as is the length of the contract being offered. Mount is not keen on the incredibly long deals that Chelsea have been handing out in recent times.
If the summer transfer window arrives with Mount still yet to put pen to paper, a transfer away could be on the horizon. It has been claimed that the 24-year-old is happy to join another English club, and now TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has had his say on Mount’s future.

Simon Jordan thinks Mason Mount will leave Chelsea
The former Crystal Palace chairman has spoke to TalkSPORT about Mount’s future at Chelsea.
“Mason Mount I think is one of those that is not going to make the cut in Chelsea’s new way of building and buying,” he said.
“Because he’s on Chelsea’s balance sheet as a zero cost because he’s an academy payer, then I very much think he could be one of those that are sold.”
Jordan went on to add: “I think Mason Mount will be sold by Chelsea. The problem is, who buys him at top money and who pays him top money? That I don’t know.”
Newcastle may still struggle to sign the Chelsea midfielder
Jordan’s reasoning for why Chelsea could sell Mount makes sense. They can make a huge amount of profit on him as he never actually cost them a penny due to coming through their academy. And this summer is the time to cash in if they can’t agree a new contract.
That could open the door for Newcastle to make a move, but they will face stiff competition. It has been reported that Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United would all be interested.
The only way Newcastle can compete with those sides is if we qualify for the Champions League. Otherwise there is no immediate reason for Mount to move to the North East.
But he would be a statement signing by the new owners, and is someone who could thrive in Eddie Howe’s side. He is a top class midfielder, and is clearly very coachable. That is why he has been well-liked by a lot of his managers.
However, wages could prove to be an issue. The Daily Mail claimed last year that he turned down a £200,000-a-week deal to stay at Chelsea. It is hard to imagine Newcastle paying more than that and smashing their wage structure to bring him in.
