It is going to be a big summer of change at Newcastle United.
While last season was absolutely incredible, the 2023/24 campaign is proving to be much tougher. And it very much feels like Eddie Howe‘s squad has reached the end of its cycle.
There are plenty of players who could depart St James’ Park ahead of the new season, as Toon fans brace themselves for a summer full of incomings and outgoings.
The Newcastle United squad needs a bit of a facelift, and it feels like it will get just that. The club will likely look to bring in some big names, with three positions already identified. One of those is right wing, while the arrival of a new centre-back also feels probable.
But there will also be outgoings, and some fan favourites could be coming towards the end of their Toon careers.

Miguel Almiron one of seven players that could leave Newcastle this summer
That is according to the Times, who have named seven current Newcastle United players who could leave the club this summer.
They have listed Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes, Callum Wilson, Matt Ritchie, Paul Dummett and Martin Dubravka as possible departures.
The one that sticks out is Bruno Guimaraes, and that one will likely depend on his release clause. Clubs can buy him for £100million, and a big money departure like that would certainly help Newcastle out with regards to profit and sustainability.
But his future is probably the least clear out of the seven players mentioned. Ritchie and Dummett are coming towards the end of their contracts, while it has been claimed that Dubravka could be replaced.
As for Trippier and Wilson, they both nearly left the club in January, and are probably at an age where they need to be moved on for financial reasons. However, that will be a difficult decision when it comes to Trippier, as he is so influential on and off the pitch.
Then we come to Almiron, who was also linked with a move away in January. He is probably in the sweet spot of young enough to get some decent money for, but not so young that we should keep him in the squad.
The 30-year-old was incredible last season, and was even branded as ‘unplayable’ by Dan Burn. But he has not been that this campaign, with the Paraguayan proving to be much less influential.
Of course, not all of those seven players will leave. But they are in contention to depart, ahead of what is likely to be a very busy summer on Tyneside.
