Dan Burn believes Miguel Almiron is ‘unplayable sometimes’ for Newcastle

Miguel Almiron is playing with incredible confidence at the moment, and teammate Dan Burn has branded him as ‘unplayable’.

The Newcastle forward scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season on Saturday, netting the Magpies’ fourth in the 5-1 win over Brentford.

It’s one of the easiest goals he will ever score in a Toon shirt, capitalising on an error from Bees defender Ethan Pinnock.

Miggy’s goal comes one week after his Craven Cottage heroics. He scored twice at Fulham, including a breathtaking volley that should easily win goal of the month.

The Paraguayan is enjoying a brilliant season so far, and is adding end product to his usual endeavour. It’s taken a long time, but everything appears to be clicking into gear for Almiron in a Newcastle shirt.

Burn on Almiron resurgence

Almiron is in fantastic form at the moment, and defender Dan Burn was asked about the 28-year-old during an interview with TalkSPORT (9.30am, 11/10/2022).

“It’s a big confidence thing, especially with players like Miggy who maybe wasn’t playing as well at the start of his career,” Burn said.

“But I think it’s that confidence and knowing that the manager has that belief in you to do the things he’s doing. I think he’s unplayable sometimes.”

Almiron showing incredible improvement

The turnaround from Almiron has been fantastic. He arrived with a lot of fanfare in 2019, costing £21million from Atlanta United.

Injury derailed a bright start under Rafa Benitez, who was gone by the time the speedster returned.

Then Almiron suffered a real dip under Steve Bruce. He couldn’t get the best out of the Paraguay international, and constantly appeared to play him out of position.

Now Eddie Howe is in charge, and is actually playing him on the right wing just like Bruce. However, the level of performance is incomparable.

Almiron is suddenly getting goals and being a constant threat in the final third. His upturn in fortunes is a real joy to behold given how popular he is among Toon fans.

Burn’s honest assessment of Miggy is spot on. He wasn’t hitting the heights expected early on in his Toon career. However, he has turned it around and is putting in some sensational performances.

And even more excitingly, Howe thinks there is more to come.
