Report: Spurs now lead Newcastle in the race to sign ‘sensational’ player, could move in January

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Juventus midfielder and Newcastle United transfer target Adrien Rabiot.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who claim the Serie A club now want to sell the France international before his contract expires in the summer.

It is believed that Spurs are the current favourites, and it would only take a fee between £8.8m-£13.2m to secure a deal.

Elsewhere, CalcioMercato have previously reported the Magpies are planning a big-money offer to lure the 27-year-old to St James’ Park in January.

Furthermore, the Frenchman has also admitted he would love to play football in the Premier League.

Tottenham ahead of Newcastle in race for Rabiot

Despite a shaky few years at Juventus, Rabiot has been brilliant for both club and country this season.

In his last five Serie A matches, the midfielder has bagged three goals and two assists.

With the likes of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba out injured for the World Cup, the 27-year-old put straight into Didier Deschamps’ starting XI.

Although illness rendered him unavailable for the semi-final against Morocco, Rabiot played in every other match out in Qatar – proving to be a staple in the middle of the park.

Hailed by sports commentator T.N. Raghu as ‘sensational’ for his performances in a France shirt, this would sure to be a strong signing for Eddie Howe’s squad.

On a cut-price deal in the winter window, Rabiot would be a strong signing for most teams out there – even if he’s solely bought for rotation purposes.
