Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Matheus Cunha, and the forward is reportedly on his way to the Premier League – to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
That is according to 90min, who believe that the Atletico Madrid forward is going to join Wolves on loan in January.
Cunha is one of four players Atletico are looking to move on next month, alongside Joao Felix who has been linked with a move to Newcastle.
It was reported earlier this month that Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes will hold talks with the Magpies over a possible move. However, that feels unlikely given the finances that will be required.
But while Atleti might struggle to get rid of Felix, it sounds like they are going to get their wish regarding Cunha.

90min recently claimed that the 23-year-old Brazilian had been offered to Newcastle. However, it is Wolves who are seemingly set to secure his signature.
A new report from 90min believes that a deal is close to being finalised, with Cunha keen to work alongside new Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui. The report adds that it will be an initial loan, with Wolves having the option to buy Cunha permanently for around £35million in the summer.
That would make him one of their most expensive signings ever, and Newcastle will soon get the chance to see if he really is worth that much. But regardless, he was not a player that Eddie Howe needed.
Newcastle right to ignore being offered Matheus Cunha
While Cunha might be the answer to Wolves’ problems, there was no need for him at Newcastle. He was merely offered to us because of our financial position in world football.
An endless amount of players will have been offered to Newcastle since the change of ownership, with clubs looking to benefit from the Magpies’ newfound wealth.
But unless they are offered a player they want or need, the Toon owners aren’t going to start doing favours for other clubs.
There is no doubting Cunha’s ability. He is a talented player and a Brazil international. But he is not what Howe needs in January.
The former Hertha Berlin forward predominantly plays through the middle – a position where Howe has three options vying for one place in the starting XI.
Newcastle already have Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak and Chris Wood. Adding another striker to the mix would have been unwise and unnecessary.
If the Magpies are going to sign an attacker in January, it will be someone who is at his best when they are deployed out wide.
