Super-agent Jorge Mendes is expected to be in England this week for talks with Newcastle United over a potential move for Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix.

That’s according to The Mirror, who claim Manchester United and Chelsea have already been sought by the representative for discussions. He now intends to speak to the Magpies and Aston Villa over a prospective switch.

The 23-year-old is set to leave Atletico after falling out with manager Diego Simeone, and his agent is doing the rounds in search of his next club.

The Portugal international is open to a move to the Premier League. However, the main issue facing the Tyneside club is that the player wants Champions League football.

Despite this, Felix could still be convinced by Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s side can offer a significant increase on his current salary. Furthermore, following the Toon’s incredible start to the season, the forward may consider the long-term vision of the project.

Newcastle to hold talks over Felix

This would be an absolutely huge move for the Magpies, given the youngster was signed by Atletico back in 2019 for a staggering £113m.

At the time, he became the fifth most expensive transfer in history, only second to Kylian Mbappe for the highest fee paid for a teenager.

However, Felix has not enjoyed the career he would have hoped for when making the move to La Liga.

Not exactly suiting Simeone’s physical playstyle, the attacker has failed to maintain a place in the side’s starting XI.

This season, for example, the 23-year-old has started just five games in the league – having come off the bench in seven more.

Despite this, Felix’s talent is undeniable. Hailed by Toon favourite and former teammate Kieran Trippier as a ‘special’ player, he would sure be a welcomed addition on Tyneside.

Having earned statistical comparisons to France international and World Cup superstar Antoine Griezmann, this would be an incredible signing for Howe.
