Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has reportedly been offered to Newcastle United ahead of the January transfer window.

That is according to 90min, who claim that the Magpies are one of multiple Premier League clubs who have been given the chance to sign the 23-year-old by his representatives. He is also heavily linked with a move to Wolves, with new boss Julen Lopetegui scouring Europe for players to boost his side’s surival hopes.

The other clubs who have been offered Cunha’s services according to 90min are Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United. They could all benefit from another attacker joining, as Armando Broja and Luis Diaz are set for extended spells on the sidelines while Cristiano Ronaldo has left Old Trafford completely.

Newcastle’s need for Cunha is far less greater, but Eddie Howe is in the market for reinforcements next month. It has been reported by the Athletic that he wants to improve in three positions, including bringing in a new wide forward.

That could mean the Atletico Madrid ace is a good fit, as he is capable of playing anywhere across the forward line. However, he is primarily a striker.

Newcastle taking up the offer of Cunha would come as a shock, but he might come recommended by current Toon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle offered Bruno’s international teammate Cunha

While Cunha was not at the World Cup with Brazil, he does have prior experience of representing his country.

The La Liga attacker has got eight caps for the Selecao, and has played alongside our very own Bruno. They played alongside each other during the World Cup qualifying campaign, while they also won Olympic gold back in 2021.

Bruno and Cunha were part of the Brazil Under-23s team that won the gold medal in Tokyo, with Cunha scoring three goals.

He is certainly an exciting talent, and has been described as ‘extraordinary‘ by his former coach Paolo Tramezzani. Atletico Madrid obviously thought he had something, paying £23million to sign him from Hertha Berlin in the summer of 2021.

But the move hasn’t really worked out, and now he looks set to depart. It was recently claimed by ESPN that Diego Simeone’s side want rid, and now Cunha’s agent is offering him out to prospective buyers.

Newcastle have been given the chance to sign him, but it would be a surprise if they do.
