Newcastle United are seemingly always linked with moves for new goalkeepers.

Indeed, despite having so many of them on the books, Newcastle’s goalkeeping department is consistently discussed.

The latest drama comes in regard to Martin Dubravka. The Slovakian has been impressing when standing in for the injured Nick Pope but was expected to leave for a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab following Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal.

Luckily for Eddie Howe, that hasn’t happened. The Newcastle United manager wants to keep Dubravka at the club and they will attempt to ensure he stays until at least the end of the current campaign.

Beyond that, plenty of names have been linked with a move to come into the squad.

Burnley’s James Trafford will reportedly be targeted at some point in 2025 but a January move would seem unlikely.

More recently still, a player in the Premier League has been tipped as a target.

Aaron Ramsdale was linked before joining Southampton from Arsenal this summer and was again tipped as a target for Newcastle. Last year, former Toon defender Danny Simpson claimed the England international was a “perfect” match for the Toon.

Now, fresh insight has emerged.

According to The Chronicle, Ramsdale – who worked with Howe at Bournemouth earlier in his career – would welcome a reunion with the Newcastle boss.

Still, as with Trafford, it seems any move this month is deemed hugely unlikely.

The report does state that Eddie Howe is a huge fan of the goalkeeper.

James Trafford seems a much more likely target than Aaron Ramsdale

While not to doubt Ramsdale’s quality, Trafford surely makes more sense.

The Burnley stopper is four years younger and would surely not arrive at Newcastle with an instant expectation to challenge Pope for the No.1 berth.

While the Clarets will no doubt be hoping to keep him, Trafford looks the better option…
