Newcastle United have announced the signing of 18-year-old wonderkid Seung-soo Park from K-League 2 side Suwon Bluewings.
The Magpies’ academy has been on a major recruitment drive since PIF’s takeover in 2021. The youth teams had been somewhat neglected during Mike Ashley’s reign as owner, but now the setup is thriving, with Newcastle United poaching players from academies in England, Europe and now Asia.
Seung-soo Park has officially been confirmed as a Newcastle player and will likely be a part of the Under-18s for his first season on Tyneside. The 18-year-old already has experience of playing professional football, making 11 appearances for Suwon Bluewings in K-League 2.
After his medical, Park was spotted in the stands at Celtic Park during Newcastle’s pre-season defeat to the Hoops. He was pictured alongside Jack Ross, who is likely to have played a part in bringing him to the club.
With the South Korean wonderkid officially a Newcastle player, he has shared what fans can expect of him on Tyneside.
- Who is Park Seung-soo? Meet the South Korean starlet Newcastle United have signed

Seung-soo Park promises commitment after joining Newcastle United
Park had trials with Bayern Munich in 2024, but has now found his way to England with the Magpies. The young winger becomes just the second player from his home country to play for Newcastle, with Ki Seung-Yung being the only other South Korean player.
There was hope that the youngster was going to be a part of Newcastle’s tour of Asia, but he has not been named in the squad, so fans will have to wait and see when their new signing will make his first appearance in the black and white stripes.
Fans will no doubt be excited at Park’s arrival, and he has already made a promise of what he will deliver. Speaking to newcastleunited.com upon signing, Park said: “It’s a huge honour to join Newcastle United.
“It’s a big step for me and I feel incredibly thankful for the faith the club have shown in me.
“I’m excited to develop here, learn from the coaches, and give everything to become the best player I can be.”
Newcastle United’s plans for Seung-soo Park after signing
Park is one of many young players who have arrived on Tyneside over the last 12 months. Kyle Fitzgerald and Baran Yildiz signed for Newcastle in January and have made a good start for the Under-18s, while Vakhtang Salia will join Newcastle in August when he turns 18.
The plan for these youngsters is to loan them out for their first seasons before assessing whether they are ready to be part of Newcastle’s first-team squad.
It appears that Newcastle do not have similar plans for Park. There is a chance he could be loaned out to a club in Europe for his first season, where he can get better knowledge of tactical play and the physicality of playing away from South Korea.
However, there have been murmurs of Park staying on Tyneside so he can become a club-trained player in three years’ time. Should they choose to do so, Park would be a major help for Newcastle’s UEFA squad registration in the future.
