Newcastle United are reportedly progressing in talks for 18-year-old South Korean wonderkid Park Seung-soo, potentially their second signing in the summer transfer window.

After it was neglected for so long, Newcastle United’s academy is now starting to become more of a powerhouse in England, with young prospects signing from all over Europe since Newcastle’s ownership change in 2021.

This summer is set to be a big one for the Magpies, with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe eager to see more quality players join the club to aid them in their Champions League campaign next season. However, the focus so far appears to be on the academy, rather than the first team.

Newcastle announced the signing of Antonio Cordero in June, with the 18-year-old winger officially joining the Magpies on July 1. Now, it has been reported that young South Korean attacker Park Seung-soo is set to join Newcastle.

With Newcastle set to wrap up their second signing of the season, a new report has shared what Howe has planned for Park next season.

Newcastle United are expected to loan out Park Seung-soo upon signing

Talks are progressing between Newcastle and Park, with the hope that he signs before their pre-season tour to South Korea in July. The Magpies take on a K-League XI before facing fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Park will become one of many young players to come through the door in the last 12 months, with the likes of Miodrag Pivas, Kyle Fitzgerald and Baran Yildiz all signing. Additionally, promising striker Vakhtang Salia will become a Newcastle player upon turning 18 in August.

Like most other young players who will be coming through the doors on Tyneside, inews has reported that Park will be seen in a similar vein as Cordero, meaning he will likely be loaned out for his first season at the club.

Despite that, he could be a part of Newcastle’s pre-season tour to South Korea to boost interest from local fans.

Park Seung-soo’s career statistics as Newcastle United talks progress

Having had a trial with Bayern Munich in 2024, Park comes to Newcastle with a lot of eyes on him. The 18-year-old has already been capped five times with South Korea’s under-20s, scoring once.

While it is hinted that he will be loaned, it remains to be seen which club he will spend next season at. The Magpies have made a habit of sending their young players to the Eredivisie in recent years, with the likes of Yankuba Minteh and Garang Kuol playing in Holland before returning to Newcastle.

It also looks like Cordero will be loaned to the Eredivisie this summer, with Dutch giants Ajax reportedly contenders for his signature. These loans give the young players a chance to play more frequently in a competitive league and gain a better understanding of tactical knowledge ahead of their return to Tyneside.

Newcastle are building a strong portfolio of young talent, and a clear pathway to the first team is being made available to them. It is truly an exciting time to be a youth prospect on Tyneside.
