One of Newcastle United’s January targets and top striker has now decided to stay at his current club despite links to several top clubs.
Newcastle have suffered yet another transfer blow as talented striker Serhou Guirassy will now not be coming to Tyneside after weeks of tracking the player.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Guirassy has chosen to stay at Stuttgart where he is enjoying an ‘outstanding‘ season in the Bundesliga.
Newcastle miss out on lethal striker
There were a number of European clubs who had taken a liking to Guirassy who has scored a very impressive 19 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions after learning of his £15m release clause.
However, that clause has now expired and, barring any extraordinary offers, the attacker has made a final decision on where he wants to play football for the remainder of the season.
Newcastle had been very keen to add another striker to their ranks to support Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, though it was always going to be a tough ask given his price.
It was also unlikely that Guirassy himself would have appreciated being a potentially third-choice forward when he had offers from top teams to be a key player for them.

Newcastle still need attacking reinforcements
Whether it’s down the left, the right or through the middle, what this season has proven is that Newcastle’s attack needs more quality in depth if they hope to compete with the best.
Wilson and Isak are very talented players but their fitness issues are a big issue while Miguel Almiron’s ability in the final third has become a big problem for Eddie Howe this season.
Anthony Gordon has shone in the front line, but the lack of Harvey Barnes due to injury means he’s is playing more than Howe would like and at times has suffered from fatigue.
A new striker would be ideal for Newcastle, but their focus right now is adding a defensive midfielder and it doesn’t look like there’s going to be funds to bring in one new player let alone two.
