Newcastle United are hoping to make at least one signing on deadline day, with Eddie Howe keen to improve his squad ahead of a busy season.
After three months of thrill, agony and outright chaos, the transfer window is in its final day, but there is still so much work to be done.
The future of Alexander Isak is now known. Newcastle United’s star striker will leave the club after a record transfer fee was agreed with Liverpool.
It was reported that Newcastle were willing to sell Isak for £130m in the hope they could cash in on the 25-year-old and bring in a replacement. Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle want to sign a second striker, though they are racing against the clock to get a deal done.
With a busy day on the horizon, a new report has shared what the Magpies’ recruitment team are thinking for deadline day.

Sunday saw even more drama arise as Yoane Wissa released a statement asking to leave Brentford. Newcastle have been attentive to that situation, but reports suggest that the Bees are looking for around £65m for him.
Elsewhere, Newcastle are still keen on signing Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Wolves striker missed their 3-2 loss to Everton on Saturday, and while those around the club said it was due to injury, it could have been a smokescreen ahead of a move.
However, that does not appear to be the case, as Newcastle’s recruitment team have cast fresh doubts.
According to a Sunday night report from the Telegraph, Eddie Howe’s recruitment team do not believe it is still a possibility to sign Wissa or Strand Larsen.
Alternatives are being looked at, but the recruiters have warned that there are ‘very few options left’ in what has been a transfer window which offered up a low number of options in the first place.
Newcastle appear happy to go into the season without a quality backup to new signing Nick Woltemade if Isak leaves.

Newcastle United must sign a new striker after agreeing Alexander Isak deal
While it is not exactly what they were looking for, £130m is still a great sale for Newcastle, and a guaranteed British record transfer.
Newcastle are in a crazy situation, unlike anything fans would have seen before. Isak is desperate to leave, and there is no knowing what will happen if he does not get the move to Liverpool he has been pushing so hard for.
However, Newcastle need to get their replacement in before a deal can be sanctioned. Despite what PIF or Howe’s recruitment team believe, they cannot go into a busy season without a striker who is a proven goalscorer.
William Osula made his Premier League debut on Saturday, but it was clear he needs a lot of work before he can become a first-team regular for the Magpies.
For now, Howe wants at least one new player before the transfer window closes; his recruitment team need to make sure it is a striker in preparation for Isak’s departure.
