Newcastle United may need to keep William Osula at the club during the January transfer window despite interest from Aston Villa and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Osula is currently injured at Newcastle United with an ankle issue and isn’t expected to return any time soon.
For a while now, it has seemed as if the forward may have already played his last game for the club.
If you could sign ONE Premier League player this month – who would it be?
Indeed, Osula has reportedly agreed terms on a move to Frankfurt, with the German club having come close to signing him in September.
More recently, Osula has been linked with Aston Villa, another team who tried to buy him last summer.
Still, following a recent update from Keith Downie, the forward may be kept after all.
Newcastle United unlikely to sign a new striker in January
On Friday, the Sky Sports reporter posted a video on YouTube.
While discussing Newcastle’s lack of depth at striker, Downie hinted that it was unlikely the club would sign a new player there during the January transfer window.
That is particularly interesting as Downie has previously suggested Newcastle could let Osula leave if they signed a forward.
Addressing the chances of signing a new striker in January, Downie said: “I don’t see that happening in January.”

Eddie Howe has confirmed Newcastle United’s stance on William Osula
The forward’s future has been one of the major talking points heading into the January window.
Osula has scored three goals in only two starts this season and, while he’s still a developing talent, has generally impressed when called upon.
As such, it seems those behind the scenes wish to keep him on Tyneside.

In fact, Howe has confirmed that Osula can only leave Newcastle on loan in January and even that isn’t something he expects to happen.
“The only way we would consider that would be for his development and growth but always with a view to come back to us,” said the Newcastle United manager in his pre-match press conference before the Crystal Palace game.
With seemingly no replacement forthcoming, it seems incredibly difficult to imagine Osula actually leaving Newcastle in January at this stage.
