Manchester United have finally made their move in the battle for Benjamin Sesko and it’s not looking good for Newcastle United.
The ‘days without a transfer window disaster’ sign at Newcastle United has just flipped back to zero after they were hit with another blow on Tuesday.
Manchester United have made a bid for Benjamin Sesko, which has decimated the chances of him joining up with Eddie Howe’s squad.
Newcastle had made their own record bid for Sesko and had positive talks with the player, but there remained the suggestion he preferred a move to Man Utd.
However, with Ruben Amorim’s side not making a bid, there was confidence Newcastle could finally beat their Premier League rivals to a signing.
Now, though, Man Utd have made a bid and, even though it’s £4m less than the Toon’s, they are now the favourites to sign Sesko after already beating Newcastle to Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
Magpies fans are used to misery this summer and have now unanimously urged the club to ‘move on’ and look for yet another target.
- Get to know Benjamin Sesko… The ‘top-class’ striker Newcastle United lost out on to Man Utd

Fans want Newcastle United to move on from Benjamin Sesko
Fans have understandably grown increasingly frustrated as the summer has gone on, with Newcastle missing out on a laundry list of top targets like Hugo Ekitike, James Trafford and now likely Sesko.
The club has shown a real incompetence in the market and have been repeatedly shown up by the more established elite sides, while Newcastle have struggled without a sporting director and CEO.
Growing tired of the club getting caught up in lengthy battles only to lose, supporters now want the club to move on from Sesko and look elsewhere for an elusive striker.
“We just need to move on now,” @danjpeg wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He’s not coming here, they’ve bid £5m below our bid knowing that’ll stall things again and it’ll just rumble on indefinitely.”
@danjackgrant lamented: “Just move on ffs, strung along yet again,” while user @TheModernHatter echoed the sentiment by posting: “Can we move on now?
“He’s going Man Utd, it’s obvious, especially now they’ve put a bid in. Another tick in the rejection column.”
@mattalanjones posted: “If #NUFC lose out on Sesko, don’t see how the club could have done more to be fair. Need to move v quickly onto Goncalo Ramos and, ideally, Samu Aghehowa too.
“If Isak is to go, those two plus Wissa would give us plenty of strength, variety, long-term upside, and PL experience.”
What striker could Newcastle United sign in the summer transfer window?
Though obviously frustrating, the one possible silver lining for fans is that surely Alexander Isak can not be sold to Liverpool if Sesko can’t be signed?
There are practically no big, exciting striker names left available to recruit and anyone that comes in now will not even feasibly be able to replace Isak – not that anyone could, really.
At least a young, up-and-coming striker would have given some optimism, but a solid and unspectacular operator will not.
Ollie Watkins would be a good signing, but spending Aston Villa’s asking price of £60m on a player who turns 30 in 2025 makes no sense in a PSR world.
The other strikers linked do not inspire much confidence or optimism:
- Nicolas Jackson – Chelsea
- Yoane Wissa – Brentford
- Rodrigo Muniz – Fulham
- Goncalo Ramos – PSG
- Jorgen Strand Larsen – Wolves
If signed in conjunction with Sesko or Isak staying, one of those names might make for a good squad player at the right price, but they can not be signed as a replacement for Isak.
However, given the way this window has gone, you can not underestimate the club’s ability to get things wrong and end up still selling Isak anyway.
