Newcastle United were dealt a blow in the summer transfer window after Alexander Isak confirmed his intention to explore avenues away from the club this summer.
After months of speculation, links to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, the bubble has finally burst.
Alexander Isak has informed Newcastle United of his intention to consider his options away from the club this summer, a huge blow for Eddie Howe and his plans in the transfer window. The 25-year-old was sensational for the Magpies last season, scoring 27 goals in all competitions, but now he is open to jumping ship after qualifying for the Champions League.
Dan Burn does not want Isak to leave Newcastle, admitting it would have an impact on the core group of players who have been on Tyneside for multiple years. Elsewhere, Darren Eales was adamant Isak would not leave Newcastle in March; he could be left with egg on his face if he does go.
In the meantime, Newcastle are keeping tabs on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who would be a replacement for Isak if he left. Geordie Boot Boys understands that Sesko and Luis Openda are two options for Newcastle, but Sesko is most likely to join.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided a promising update on Newcastle’s interest in Sesko.

Newcastle United ready for Benjamin Sesko talks amid Alexander Isak unease
RB Leipzig sources think Sesko will leave the Bundesliga this summer, a huge boost to Newcastle’s chances of signing him. However, it must be pointed out that the 22-year-old will likely only join if Isak were to leave.
Despite that, Newcastle still appear happy to advance and at least begin talks over a move in case the unthinkable happens.
According to Romano, Newcastle are now ready to present the project to Sesko as they want to ‘go big’. A proposal is also being put together by Howe’s recruitment team to try and tempt the Slovenian into moving to England this summer.
Recent reports suggest Sesko would cost as little as £60million, a fee which would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive player ever. It is believed that Newcastle will still look to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford as well as Sesko, with the former likely to be a second string option to the young striker.

Benjamin Sesko’s statistics compared to Alexander Isak
In an ideal world, Newcastle would sign a like-for-like replacement for Isak, who guarantees goals and success wherever they go. Unfortunately, Isak is sincerely one of one, and Howe’s recruitment team are in for a very tough time finding his replacement.
Despite the issues, they believe Sesko is the right player to replace him – a young, dangerous striker who has a proven eye for goal. Newcastle doing a deal for him makes sense, as fans will be crying out for a quality young striker to replace Isak, rather than Wissa, who likely needs replacing in a couple of years anyway.
| 2024/25 League statistics | Benjamin Sesko | Alexander Isak |
| Appearances | 33 | 34 |
| Minutes | 2,398 | 2,774 |
| Goals | 13 | 23 |
| Assists | 5 | 6 |
Isak is irreplaceable, but if you had to, Sesko is a good alternative to the Swede. Both players have their own qualities, with Isak’s dribbling ability very impressive and Sesko’s aerial prowess very admirable.
Newcastle would surely be okay if they had to sign Sesko, a player who will surely benefit from the up-front tutoring of Howe, who has worked wonders on so many other players in the past.
