The frontrunner to replace Alexander Isak at Newcastle United is Benjamin Sesko.

That is a reality that a lot of Newcastle United fans will not want to face, but it is the one being presented to them. Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle, which gives them the unenviable task of replacing one of the best strikers in the world.

Geordie Boot Boys understand that Benjamin Sesko is an option for Newcastle. He is a long-term target on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe first trying to sign him in 2022.

Three years later, Sesko looks perfect for Newcastle United at a time when Isak could be on his way out.

Benjamin Sesko still likely to leave RB Leipzig this summer

While a deal will be difficult, as is the case with any Newcastle United transfer, there is scope for the 22-year-old to change clubs this summer.

That has been the expectation all summer, and now the Athletic have provided a fresh update on whether or not Sesko will leave RB Leipzig in the coming weeks.

According to the Athletic, an RB Leipzig source has said the chance of Sesko remaining with the Bundesliga club this summer is ‘slender’. However, they add that the likelihood has increased.

For a long time, it had looked like Sesko was going to join Arsenal. However, they have gone elsewhere with Viktor Gyokeres heading to the Emirates.

Chelsea also targeted him, only to bring in Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

Manchester United have been linked, but do not have the lure of Champions League football like Newcastle United. However, Champions League football is not everything as the Magpies discovered when Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo moved to Old Trafford.

What Benjamin Sesko expects to happen as Newcastle United linger

When it comes to Sesko himself, he does have eyes on a move away from RB Leipzig.

The Athletic add that Sesko has been expecting to move clubs all summer, with the Premier League his most likely destination.

That is still a possibility, with Newcastle United now serious contenders to secure his signature. Signing him would ease the pain of losing Isak.

The Athletic also state that while Sesko is open to remaining with RB Leipzig for another year, there is still belief that the right move will come his way.

Whether or not he feels Newcastle United is that right move remains to be seen.
