Anthony Elanga is Newcastle United’s only major signing in four transfer windows now.
While Newcastle should rightly be excited about the impact a player as good as Elanga could have next season, the Sweden international alone isn’t enough for Eddie Howe.
Indeed, the Newcastle United manager is preparing for another huge season. Champions League football will return to St James’ Park, while Howe will no doubt be looking to build on the Carabao Cup victory back in March.
The Newcastle United squad is looking a little light and this has been a summer full of frustration. Newcastle have admired all of Dean Huijsen, Liam Delap, Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike but they have headed elsewhere.
Still, and despite Howe’s worrying Newcastle transfer update, there are reasons to be confident.

Newcastle United could make two signings as big as Anthony Elanga
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle have financial room to sign players for big money this summer.
Newcastle paid £55m for Elanga and the outlet suggests Newcastle could feasibly still sign two players for similar fees during what remains of the transfer window.
When asked how much money there was to spend during a Q&A session on the website, Lee Ryder said: “I don’t think Newcastle would show their hand for obvious reasons. But it looks a lot better.
“I think they have room to make another two signings as big as the fees for Elanga. That should put them in great shape ahead of the new season.
“But they must tread carefully with PSR still.”
Newcastle are in a strong PSR position and their transfer budget is thought to be around £150million. PSR rules do not allow clubs to lose more than £105million over a three-year accounting period.
Newcastle United confident of making second signing of the summer
Yoane Wissa could follow Elanga through the doors at St James’ this summer.
Newcastle are confident they can sign Wissa, despite the fact they have seen a £25million bid rejected by Brentford.
The DR Congo international scored 19 Premier League goals last season and would bring some much-needed firepower to the ranks.
While Newcastle are confident they will keep Alexander Isak at the club, they still need attacking reinforcement following the departure of Callum Wilson.
In Elanga and potentially Wissa, they’ll be adding some serious power to a frontline already containing some prolific players.
