Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles could make a post-deadline day move away from the club after Eddie Howe’s recent decision.
While the transfer window is closed in England, there are other countries that are still conducting business.
Newcastle United enjoyed a relatively successful transfer window, making six senior signings, including a club record deal for Nick Woltemade, while several longstanding players left the club after falling out of Eddie Howe’s starting XI.
The likes of Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden moved on in the summer. In the meantime, defender Jamaal Lascelles remained at the club. The 31-year-old is Newcastle’s longest-serving player, but has not played competitively since suffering an ACL injury in March 2024.
Lascelles is back fit and available, but the signing of Malick Thiaw has left many wondering what the future holds for the former club captain. Now, a new report has claimed it could be away from St James’ Park.

Jamaal Lascelles attracting transfer interest from Turkey
In 2024, there were reports that Wolves were interested in Lascelles, but a move never came to fruition due to how long it was taking for him to recover from injury.
Lascelles is an option for Howe in the Premier League and domestic competitions, but there are several players ahead of him in the pecking order, so his chances of playing regularly are very slim.
According to the Daily Mail, Lascelles is of interest to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, who still have time to make a move for the Englishman.
The decision comes after Lascelles was left out of Newcastle’s 25-man squad for the Champions League alongside players like Harrison Ashby and John Ruddy.
Lascelles was a major part of Newcastle’s starting XI during Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce’s spells at the club, but became an alternative choice under Howe when he arrived in 2021. His injury did not help him regain his starting XI place either.

How Jamaal Lascelles can still leave Newcastle United after the transfer deadline
Reports last month suggested Newcastle were not ruling out Lascelles’ exit. The defender has just one year left on his current deal on Tyneside, and there is currently no word on whether he will be kept on.
However, his Champions League omission is telling about what could lie ahead for him.
The transfer window shut almost two weeks ago in England, but countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia are still able to conduct transfer business after that.
In Turkey, the transfer window closes on Friday, so there is still a small amount of time for Newcastle to strike a deal with Trabzonspor for Lascelles if they are willing to let him go.
Newcastle could do with the cover for the next season, especially with Howe’s top players likely to feel the effects of playing multiple games in a week.
