Newcastle United are replacing Alexander Isak on transfer deadline day, with Yoane Wissa set to arrive.

He is already on Tyneside for his medical, with Geordie Boot Boys told that Newcastle are signing Yoane Wissa for around £55million.

It is a seismic bit of business for the Magpies, on a day when Alexander Isak is going to join Liverpool.

Newcastle United are involved in two of the biggest deals on transfer deadline day, as clubs scramble to get their business done by 7pm.

That includes the Magpies, who could still be active after finalising a deal for Wissa.

Newcastle United ‘working on other things’ as Yoane Wissa deal is finalised

There is excitement and relief on Tyneside ahead of the arrival of Wissa.

However, the i Paper’s Mark Douglas suggests that more transfer activity is a possibility.

Douglas has written on X: “Yoane Wissa now at #nufc training ground for medical after deal agreed! Fee is around £50m (debate over exactly how it’s structured). I think it’s a huge signing in context of the season. #nufc still working on other things…”

The last sentence is the most significant, with Newcastle ‘working on other things’ before the transfer window slams shut at 7pm.

Whether that means incomings or outgoings is unclear, with Will Osula linked with a move away from St James’ Park.

There are also other players who could depart, with Harrison Ashby and Trevan Sanusi potentially going out on loan.

Newcastle United were linked with Davide Frattesi

Once the Wissa deal is over the line, Newcastle United can reflect on what has been a brilliant transfer window.

However, it could become even better with one more signing. Newcastle are interested in a new centre-midfielder, although their desire to bring one in has lessened due to Sandro Tonali and Joelinton’s injuries not being serious.

Davide Frattesi has been linked with Newcastle, with a loan deal discussed between Toon officials and Inter Milan.

Whether or not that is still an option on deadline day remains to be seen. It would be quite the coup for Eddie Howe, but a deal feels unlikely before 7pm.
