Newcastle United have a very clear stance regarding Lloyd Kelly’s future.
The summer signing has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park during the January transfer window, with Fenerbahce making a bid to sign Lloyd Kelly.
That was rejected, while Kelly has also attracted interest from Juventus.
However, Eddie Howe has made it clear he wants to keep Kelly. That is no surprise, as his Newcastle United squad has already gotten weaker following Miguel Almiron’s move to Atlanta United.
But if a big enough offer was made, Newcastle really would have a decision to make.
Newcastle United set Lloyd Kelly price tag

That is according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about what it will take for Newcastle United to let Lloyd Kelly leave St James’ Park this month.
“Juventus haven’t given up on him,” he said.
“Newcastle would only do a permanent deal though. Are Juventus willing to do that? It seems a bit unlikely at this juncture.
“It’s one to keep an eye on. I find it hard to believe Newcastle would do it. There are a few clubs in there, such as Borussia Dortmund and a few teams in France. Marseille have asked about him.
“Newcastle want £30million for him. That is what was coming out of the clubs who had it passed on from the Newcastle-end. Would they do an loan with an obligation to buy? I think they would, but not a loan with an option.”
The only reason Newcastle should let Lloyd Kelly go
Newcastle are not expecting to lose Lloyd Kelly this month.
That does not come as a surprise, as their £30million price tag is pretty lofty. It would be a shock if someone offered that amount.
But that is the only way the Magpies should even consider letting Kelly leave. Even a loan exit with an option to buy should not be accepted.
Given Newcastle’s PSR position, a major offer for Kelly would have to be considered. It would put the club in a brilliant position to strengthen either now or in the summer.
Even that would be a risk, as Kelly is a versatile player who is a good squad option. Kelly wants to be a ‘leader’ on the pitch for Newcastle, but has not had many opportunities to showcase what he is capable of.
It is understandable why he would be considering his future, but Newcastle simply have to keep him – unless there is a major PSR boost on offer.
