The 2025 January transfer window could be all about outgoings at Newcastle United.
Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle United need to sell before they buy, which is a major concern given Eddie Howe’s need for reinforcements.
The likes of Miguel Almiron, Harvey Barnes and Kieran Trippier have been linked with permanent exits, while the Magpies may also look to loan some younger players out.
It was previously reported that Newcastle will look to loan out Will Osula, but that now feels unlikely given Callum Wilson’s injury. The 32-year-old is going to be absent for two months with a hamstring injury, which will likely force Osula to stay on Tyneside.
Newcastle United plan to loan out young defender

But a positive injury update at the other end of the pitch could result in Alex Murphy departing St James’ Park on a temporary basis.
With Sven Botman back in full training, Newcastle can now afford to let the 20-year-old go out and get the experience he needs.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are going to let Murphy leave on loan once the FA Cup clash with Bromley on January 12th has passed.
The report adds that the defender is highly rated by the Magpies, and could join a club in the Championship or League One.
Newcastle had planned to loan Murphy out in the summer, with Portsmouth making an approach for a defender who Eddie Howe called ‘impressive’ earlier this year.
Newcastle make Sean Longstaff decision
Newcastle’s plan to loan Murphy out comes on the back of an update on Sean Longstaff’s future.
It is reported that Newcastle are willing to sell Longstaff, with the midfielder possibly seeing his future away from St James’ Park.
Selling the 27-year-old would help the Magpies’ PSR position, as he is a homegrown talent and would therefore represent pure profit.
If Longstaff is sold in January, Lewis Miley could benefit. The 18-year-old has made just one substitute appearance for the first-team since his return from injury, but his minutes could increase in 2025.
