Sean Longstaff’s Newcastle United future is in doubt as the January transfer window hurtles towards its conclusion.
The midfielder has been tentatively linked with a move away, with claims that Sean Longstaff is the most likely to leave Newcastle United after Miguel Almiron.
The 27-year-old is an academy graduate, which means selling him would really enhance Newcastle United’s PSR position. As Sean Longstaff is a product of the club, he would go down as pure profit.
It is reported that Everton are interested in Longstaff. He was a target during Sean Dyche’s time as manager, and the rumours have continued following David Moyes’ appointment.

Whether Newcastle United could sell Sean Longstaff to Everton
But is a deal possible before the January transfer window closes on Monday night? Journalist Ben Jacobs has told NUFC Matters on YouTube that there is a chance – if Everton offer around £10million.
However, the Toffees would prefer a different deal.
“Longstaff is the more interesting one,” Jacobs said.
“I think all parties are willing to find a solution. Maybe that £20million, £30million or £40million to satisfy PSR can come from two, three or four sales, or two, three or four players off the wage bill.
“Longstaff, I’m told, they may be willing to do business for in the region of £10million.
“But Everton’s perspective is that, rather than an outright purchase, they would look to do a loan with an obligation to buy contingent on staying up in the Premier League.”
Newcastle United’s difficult Sean Longstaff decision
There are arguments for and against selling Longstaff this month.
On the one hand, he is no longer a regular starter at St James’ Park. Having previously been a mainstay in Eddie Howe’s team, Longstaff has not started a Premier League game for the Magpies since the 4-2 defeat to Brentford back in December.
Newcastle also have a decent amount of cover in midfield, with Joe Willock also finding himself on the bench. There is Lewis Miley too, who looks ready to be exposed to even more senior football following his return to fitness.
And from a PSR perspective, getting a cash fee for Longstaff would really help Newcastle reinvest in the long run.
However, Eddie Howe will be reluctant to weaken his squad any further this season. Newcastle are selling Almiron, with a replacement right winger not expected to arrive at St James’ Park until the summer. The Toon boss will not want to let another player leave without guarantees that someone will arrive in their place.
There is also Longstaff’s stance to consider. Newcastle are one game away from another final at Wembley and another chance to end the club’s incredible trophy drought. As a Newcastle fan, Longstaff will surely want to stay and be a part of that.
