Newcastle United are taking some big risks during the January transfer window.

Miguel Almiron has left Newcastle United, with the winger returning to Atlanta United in a deal worth around £10million. That is good business for the Magpies, even if it leaves them short of attacking options.

Following Almiron’s exit, Lloyd Kelly is also going to leave Newcastle United. He is moving on loan to Juventus, with the Serie A side agreeing a loan deal with an obligation to buy in the summer.

There are plenty more players linked with leaving St James’ Park before the transfer window closes. There has been speculation regarding Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett, for example.

Sean Longstaff is another player linked with an exit. Everton are interested in Longstaff, but he looks set to remain at St James’ Park – for now.

That is according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Sean Longstaff’s Newcastle United future.

“The player has said no to leaving,” he said.

“I think there was some touching base from Everton’s point of view, but Longstaff has made it clear that he is not ready to leave yet.

“He will be one for the summer.”

Carabao Cup must influence Sean Longstaff’s Newcastle decision

It is not a major shock that Longstaff has opted to stay at St James’ Park for now.

Newcastle United have a huge game on Wednesday night, as they prepare to face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. The Magpies have a 2-0 advantage going into the game, and are potentially 90 minutes away from a return to Wembley.

There is a genuine chance that Newcastle United could end their trophy drought this year, and Longstaff, being a local lad, will not want to pass up the chance to be part of history.

That is surely a key reason why he plans to stay where he is, with his future due to be readdressed in the summer.
