Marc Guehi to Newcastle United is reaching its endgame.

The Magpies’ pursuit of the 24-year-old has developed into a saga, which is exactly what Newcastle United will not have wanted.

Newcastle have made four bids for Marc Guehi, all of which have been rejected. Crystal Palace are holding out for as much money as possible, with Steve Parish saying Guehi will cost ‘superstar money’.

Toon officials will argue they have offered that, with their most recent proposal worth around £65million – a club record fee for the Magpies.

Yet Palace continue to hold firm, while Guehi captained the Eagles during their Premier League opener against Brentford on Sunday. They lost 2-1, with Guehi not performing to the best of his ability.

Newcastle set Marc Guehi deadline

With just over a week to go before the transfer window closes, the situation regarding Newcastle’s pursuit of Guehi hangs in the balance.

The next few days are going to be make or break, and a new report has detailed when the Magpies believe it could be time to walk away from a deal.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United are going to walk away from negotiations with Crystal Palace if they are unable to agree a deal before this weekend.

Crystal Palace are in action on Saturday, as they face West Ham at home at 3pm. By then, Guehi will know whether he is going to be moving to Newcastle United or not.

Newcastle’s Guehi pursuit has been a bit of a shambles

This never should have developed into a saga. When it started, Newcastle’s fear was that their Guehi bid would be hijacked. However, that has not happened.

Instead, Newcastle have been totally unable to meet Crystal Palace’s Guehi asking price. That raises questions about the Magpies’ pursuit, as it has been well documented that the England international will cost in excess of £60million.

Four bids later and Newcastle still have not satisfied Palace’s demands, while the process has been dragged out through the media. It has become a circus, and one that has still not resulted in Eddie Howe getting a new centre-back.

Now the clock is ticking, and it appears that Newcastle want closure by the end of Friday. Whether that means Guehi joins or they look elsewhere, an end to this saga is imminent.
