Newcastle United are facing up to the reality of not signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
The 25-year-old had been Newcastle United’s top target, but a move to St James’ Park is no longer on the cards.
Mbeumo wants to join Manchester United, as Ruben Amorim’s side attempt to strike a deal with the Bees for their talisman.
The Magpies did look into the possibility of signing the attacker. However, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle believe Mbeumo is too expensive.
Brentford want around £60million for the Cameroon international, while there are also his wage demands to consider.
It has been reported by the Times that Mbeumo wants £250,000-a-week to leave Brentford. That sum would smash the Magpies’ wage structure.

Newcastle United fans react to Bryan Mbeumo’s wage demands
With that in mind, a lot of Newcastle United fans are not quite as disappointed about missing out on Mbeumo as they once were.
Following the claim about Mbeumo’s wage demands, some Toon supporters have given their views on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“That fee plus those wages, top level money for a player who probably won’t ever be,” wrote one fan.
A second Newcastle fan added: “As much as I would love us to sign Mbeumo, £250k-a-week is just ridiculous. No wonder we didn’t advance any further with our interest.”
“Man United are the only club stupid enough to pay Mbeumo that sort of crazy money it’s the perfect club for him,” added this member of the Toon Army.
A fourth Newcastle United supporter commented: “Exactly the type of player we don’t need. Man United are about to get another mercenary.”
After hearing about Mbeumo’s wage demands, this Toon fan asked: “I thought it was the Manchester United ‘pull’ that did it?”
Finally, this supporter wrote on X: “Wild, more than Isak that!”
Newcastle United’s highest earner
If Mbeumo were to earn that kind of money at St James’ Park, he would immediately become Newcastle United’s highest-paid player ever.
Comfortably too, as £250,000-a-week would massively eclipse the £160,000-a-week that Bruno Guimaraes reportedly earns on Tyneside.
Newcastle do have ambitions of changing their highest earner, but that honour will not go to Mbeumo.
Instead, Newcastle want Alexander Isak to be their highest earner.
Newcastle are confident Isak will sign a new contract this summer, but that will depend on the level of wages they are able to offer him.

Given the fact he is widely heralded as one of the best strikers in the world, the Magpies must pay him accordingly.
While Newcastle will be reluctant to smash their wage structure, it is the only way they are going to keep their top stars.
