Newcastle United have emerged as surprise contenders for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho this summer, alongside Aston Villa and Tottenham.

It is no surprise that the Magpies are looking to sign a right winger this summer after losing Yankuba Minteh and Miguel Almiron in the last 12 months.

Jacob Murphy has done an excellent job at Newcastle United in the circumstances, but there will naturally be questions over whether he can continue his good form into the 2025/26 campaign, especially with Champions League football on the horizon.

Several names have been listed as possible right-wing signings for Newcastle, but Eddie Howe is yet to find the quality player he is so keen on signing. However, Newcastle have been linked with Jadon Sancho as they believe he is a strong option who will help them in their upcoming Champions League campaign.

Sancho, a Champions League finalist, is believed to be on the transfer list at Manchester United after loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.

With Newcastle continuing to monitor Sancho, fans have shared their thoughts on signing him in a social media thread.

Newcastle United fans do not want their club to sign Jadon Sancho

Before Sancho, Newcastle fans were desperate to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo after his breathtaking Premier League season. However, that all came crashing down when Mbeumo gave Newcastle staggering wage demands which the club were not willing to meet.

Thus, the search for a new right winger goes on, but it looks like they could now bring Sancho to the club in a move very few saw coming.

While Newcastle officials appear to be keen on Sancho, the fans are far from pleased. When asked whether they would take Sancho this summer, fans were brutally honest on a recent feed on the social media platform X.

“No for me. It’s the character question,” said one fan, while another added: “Would get walked out the door in 2 mins of the character assessment.”

This fan questioned Sancho’s large wage bill, saying: “Newcastle needs players willing to give everything and more for the club, and Sancho is not that type of player.”

“Doesn’t matter what we think, his wages are ridiculous. No chance it happens.” said this honest Newcastle fan.

Another fan added: “Attitude stinks and speaks volumes that neither Man U or Chelsea want him. Would rather have Grealish if were taking others’ rejects.”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “No too much money on wages and doesn’t do enough on the pitch, defo avoid!!”

Could Eddie Howe turn Jadon Sancho into a star at Newcastle United?

Fans make a good point about his character. He does seem like a player who would pass Howe’s spot check at Newcastle. Despite that, he could still be worth bringing to the club if the price is right.

A serious problem at the moment seems to be wages, and with Sancho’s demands presumably high, it will be tough for the Magpies to get a deal done.

However, if it happens, Newcastle fans could see a player revival similar to what Howe was able to do with Joelinton in 2021. The Brazilian looked completely lost as a striker but became an unlikely hero in the Magpies’ midfield after a bizarre turn of events.

Howe has transformed players at Newcastle, with even the likes of Sandro Tonali feeling the change since he moved to Tyneside in 2023.

If Sancho can knuckle down and work hard, he could easily be a success at Newcastle, and fans will quickly take a shine to him.
