Newcastle United could do with selling players this month.
While Newcastle are not expected to make many (if any) signings during the January transfer window, that doesn’t mean players cannot leave.
The club have not been brilliant at selling during the PIF era. In fact, the situation got so bad in June that Newcastle had to allow Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to leave, even despite the fact Eddie Howe didn’t want them to.

Had Newcastle not have raised that money, they were reportedly facing a potential ten-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
As a result, plenty of players are being tipped for an exit.
Miguel Almiron is said to be attracting big interest, albeit a formal bid for the forward is yet to have come in.
Matt Targett will be allowed to leave too and there has since been a development.
Two Premier League clubs keen on signing Matt Targett from Newcastle United

According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, Premier League pair Brentford and Leicester are interested in the former Aston Villa defender.
It’s claimed Targett is set for an exit this month.
Both clubs know Newcastle cannot negotiate from a position of strength and would be keen to offload due to FFP/PSR constraints. A loan move may also be an option providing the deal makes sense for the Magpies.
Why Newcastle United are struggling to sell Matt Targett
Clearly, Targett missing so much football due to injury has not helped matters.
However, even now he’s fit again, it may be a struggle to move him on.
Indeed, The Athletic last month suggested Targett’s high wages – believed to be worth in the region of £100k-p/w – has led to a lack of interest.
It remains to be seen whether or not either of Brentford or Leicester would entertain that kind of salary, although perhaps a loan agreement where they are shared could be a way to go.
With Lewis Hall flying at left-back and both Dan Burn and Lloyd Kelly able to deputise, Targett does not seem likely to get much football at Newcastle.
