Newcastle United are holding talks about their ‘outstanding’ star currently set to leave

Newcastle United have decisions to make this summer.

After a period in which Newcastle have struggled to spend, Eddie Howe has largely had to make use of what he’s got.

Still, perhaps things will change soon.

Newcastle believe they are in a strong position to spend this summer, having raised money through player sales all while deciding not to make significant investments in incoming talents.

That, however, does not mean Howe cannot keep some of his existing players at the club. Wholesale changes may not be needed.

Indeed, the club are seemingly ready to keep some of the names who could feasibly leave this summer. Fabian Schar could be offered a new deal before his contract expires at the end of the season, while Newcastle are in talks with Emil Krafth over a contract extension.

Now, it seems Callum Wilson’s future is being discussed.

Newcastle United holding talks over Callum Wilson’s future

According to The Chronicle, brief talks have been held in regard to the striker.

Howe has talked up the “outstanding” Wilson and few can doubt his ability to score goals when fit, albeit it remains difficult to imagine the England international will suddenly become available more regularly.

Wilson had been expected to leave Newcastle upon the expiration of his contract this summer but perhaps there’s still a chance he stays.

Right now, however, with no new deal agreed the fact is that Wilson is set to leave as things stand.

Newcastle United have a ruthless decision to make over Callum Wilson imminently

Wilson has suffered with injuries throughout his Newcastle career and, frankly, it’s been hugely frustrating to watch.

To expect him to be free of them of all of a sudden also feels hopeful at best. Deluded may be a better word.

Still, there is absolutely no guarantee that spending money would bring in a replacement quite as prolific as the 32-year-old.

Able to talk to foreign clubs right now, a decision surely has to be made soon. Either way, it’s a gamble.
