Newcastle United cannot afford to lose Fabian Schar.
The 33-year-old is in the final year of his Newcastle United contract, which means he is currently on course to leave St James’ Park this summer.
However, there is no way that the Magpies can let Fabian Schar go. He is simply too important, and continues to perform at an extremely high level.
Eddie Howe absolutely loves Schar, as he continues to rely on a player who cost Newcastle just £3million back in 2018.
Fortunately for Howe, Schar has said he wants to stay at Newcastle United. He is keen to sign a contract extension and continue his career on Tyneside.

Fabrizio Romano’s exciting Fabian Schar contract update
But with 2025 arriving and no new contract signed, Schar is currently free to discuss a transfer with foreign clubs.
The Magpies are taking a risk by running Schar’s contract down, which is why the latest update from Fabrizio Romano is very exciting.
Romano has written on X: “Understand Newcastle are stepping up efforts in talks over new deal for Fabian Schär. Negotiations underway and advancing well as Newcastle want to make it happen and keep Schär at the club.”
Contract length could determine Schar’s Newcastle United future
Romano says Newcastle United are stepping up their efforts to hand Schar a new deal and keep him at the club, which is a huge positive.
Even at the age of 33, Schar is still immensely important. His partnership with Dan Burn this season has been excellent, while he has continued to chip in with key goals against the likes of Liverpool and Wolves.
It would be crazy of Newcastle to let him go, especially as the player himself is keen to remain where he is.
However, the length of the contract being discussed has not been mentioned by Romano. And that could be a pivotal factor as to whether or not Schar commits his future to the Magpies.
Geordie Boot Boys were told last year that Newcastle must offer Schar a multi-year deal to keep him at St James’ Park.
You would like to think that the club would be prepared to do that, even if it is uncommon for a player of his age. If that is what is required to keep him at St James’ Park then it simply must be done.
