Newcastle United continue to be linked with players despite a relatively slow January transfer window.

Indeed, Newcastle are yet to sign anyone and that may continue.

Newcastle aren’t guaranteed to sign a player in January, such are the PSR limitations that remain in play.

Still, that hasn’t stopped the proverbial transfer rumour mill from churning.

Eddie Howe’s side continue to be touted as a landing spot for various players. Ideally, players would arrive at St James’ Park this month but, right now, it would appear unlikely.

One of the names to have emerged in recent weeks and months is Lille midfielder Angel Gomes.

Gomes has been linked with Newcastle and the England international has now shared an update on his future.

Newcastle United target Angel Gomes makes public transfer statement

Both Newcastle and Tottenham have both been linked with Gomes, who is out of contract at Lille at the end of the season.

An England international to have played Champions League football is always likely to attract big interest, particularly when their contract is soon set to expire.

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano (via social media platform X), Gomes confirmed he was aware that clubs had inquired about his situation but stressed he was purely focusing on this season with Lille.

Angel Gomes would expect to become one of Newcastle’s highest-paid players

Gomes is understood to want a contract worth £150k-per-week should he leave Lille at the end of the season.

Given he may not require a transfer fee, the 24-year-old is certainly in a decent bargaining position when it comes to speaking to clubs about a move.

That kind of money would see Gomes become one of the top earners on Tyneside.

Bruno Guimaraes is currently Newcastle’s top earner on a deal worth around £160k-per-week, closely followed by Joelinton.

Agreeing to those kind of terms would be a major call.
