Reports in Germany have linked Newcastle United with a move for Timo Werner.
The Chelsea forward is one of the big names the Magpies reportedly want to sign, with rumours aplenty since the Saudi-backed takeover was approved in October.
In the days after PIF bought the club from Mike Ashley, German reporter Christian Falk claimed that the new owners wanted to sign Werner.
That was despite the fact that the club still hadn’t decided on a manager. Steve Bruce was still in charge at that point, but the writing was on the wall. That’s why so many transfer targets seemed farfetched.

But two months on and the talk of Werner is still continuing in Germany. And Falk has provided a Fabian Schar-related update.
Falk believes Fabian Schar can help Newcastle sign Timo Werner
Interestingly, Newcastle defender Schar and Chelsea’s Werner share the same agency. They’re both represented by Sports360, after Werner made the change earlier in the year.
And because of that, Falk claims that Newcastle think they have a slight chance of signing the 25-year-old.

Speaking to Bild, Falk said: “With Werner, they reckon they’ve got a bit of a chance. They’ve got contacts with the management. One of their players (Fabian Schar) is also managed by the German agency that represents Werner.
“Whether Werner will end up feeling so frustrated at Chelsea and then say ‘I’ll give it a go in Newcastle’ is the big question.”
Interestingly, Niklas Sule is also represented by the same agency – another player Newcastle have been heavily linked with.
But despite Falk’s claim, a move for Werner still seems fanciful for the Magpies for multiple reasons. Firstly, why would he want to swap Champions League holders and Premier League title chasers Chelsea for relegation threatened Newcastle?

Also, why would Chelsea want to sell? While Thomas Tuchel does have a bloated squad, Werner, who joined Chelsea in 2020 for £49million, is not one of the players who feels likely to be moved on.
And finally, would he even fit in at Newcastle? His goal record in England is poor. That could obviously improve at St James’ Park, but for now a Werner/Toon transfer seems massively unlikely.
The Schar factor would certainly help, but surely won’t be enough to convince the Germany international to join Newcastle United.
