Newcastle United have been linked with Andrey Santos for months, and are reportedly now set to make a bid for the 18-year-old.
That is according to the Northern Echo, who claim that the Magpies are finally set to formalise their interest in one of Brazil’s brightest young talents.
Santos’ form for Vasco da Gama has turned heads in Europe, with Newcastle one of multiple clubs keen to give him a chance to take the next step in his career.
There have been claims of ‘confidence‘ over a deal, while rumours of interest in Maximo Perrone has cast doubt over the Santos speculation.
But now the Northern Echo believe that Newcastle are ready to make an opening offer for the South American midfielder.
Newcastle to bid for Andrey Santos
The report claims that Newcastle will open the bidding for Santos very shortly. They add that an offer will likely be heavily weighted with clauses that would see Newcastle pay the majority of the fee in the future.
Whether Vasco da Gama would accept an offer like that remains to be seen. He is their most valuable asset right now, with claims that he could cost more than £25million.
That is a lot of money for a man with just one season in senior football, but it is a testament to his sensational ability that Juninho Pernambucano recently alluded to. The Brazilian legend has predicted that Santos will become a ‘more complete player‘ than he was.
While an offer hasn’t even been made for Santos, never mind accepted, Newcastle already have plans on what to do with the Brazilian wonderkid.
The Northern Echo state that Santos would not be loaned out, and would instead be given time to settle in the North East during the first six months. That’s a contrast to Garang Kuol, who will reportedly be shipped out on a temporary deal as soon as he joins officially in January. However, that is largely down to his possible inability to gain a work permit.
With Kuol tied up, Santos could possibly be the next major addition for Newcastle’s future. Dan Ashworth is preparing a move, and let’s hope he can secure the youngster’s services.
