Newcastle United have reportedly almost agreed a fee with Everton to bring Anthony Gordon to St James’ Park.
That is according to Sky Sports, who state that talks between the two clubs are now at an advanced stage.
It was reported on Friday morning that Sean Dyche had agreed to become the new Everton manager, and it felt like that appointment could speed up Gordon’s switch to Tyneside.
That looks like it could now be the case, with Newcastle close to agreeing a fee to sign the 21-year-old.
Sky Sports state that the move could be worth around £45million in total, including add-ons. That would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever, behind the £63million Alexander Isak deal.
The report adds that there is hope that a deal can be completed this weekend.

It looks like Newcastle are finally going to get their man. £45million is a lot of money for a player like Gordon, but it is the premium you have to pay for a young English talent.
That fee will be the amount the deal could reach with add-ons, so he might not even end up costing that much. It will largely depend on how he does in a black and white shirt.
If he thrives and those add-ons are activated, he will end up costing the entire £45million. But that won’t matter, because at least it would mean he has been a successful signing.
This mini transfer saga has been somewhat frustrating, but it always felt likely that a deal would get done. Gordon wants the move, the Newcastle hierarchy really like him, and Everton need the money.
Fabrizio Romano recently stated that personal terms are already agreed between the player and the club, meaning the price tag was all that was separating Gordon from becoming a Magpie.
Now it looks like that gap has been bridged, with Sky Sports stating that a £45million deal is close.
If a deal gets done this weekend, Gordon will be a Newcastle player in time for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi final. However, he will be cup-tied after representing Everton earlier in the competition.
Therefore, the first opportunity for him to make his debut would come against West Ham at St James’ Park on February 4th.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. For now, nothing is complete. But this deal is certainly edging towards a positive conclusion for Newcastle.
