Everton look like they are set to make an appointment that could fast-track Anthony Gordon‘s transfer to Newcastle United.
The Magpies have been trying to sign the 21-year-old all week, with Gordon keen to make the move to St James’ Park.
Both Newcastle and Everton have been locked in negotiations, unable to agree a price for the talented winger.
However, the hierarchy at Goodison Park have also had another matter to deal with. They sacked Frank Lampard as manager on Monday, and have spent the week trying to find his replacement.
That has stalled incomings and outgoings at the club, as they look to get a new manager in the dugout as quickly as possible.

Now it looks like they have found Lampard’s successor, with multiple outlets, including Sky Sports News, reporting that Sean Dyche is going to take the Everton job.
It looks like a good appointment by Farhad Moshiri, and it is a decision that could trigger Gordon’s move to Newcastle.
Dyche decision should allow Anthony Gordon to join Newcastle
The main issue for Everton this week has been the manager. They have needed to get someone in, especially with limited time remaining in the transfer window.
Amid all the uncertainty at the club, they missed out on Arnaut Danjuma to Tottenham. Then there has been the talk involving Gordon’s departure.
While it is the only thing Toon fans care about, it has had to take a backseat for Everton. Appointing a manager had to take priority, and it now looks like they are about to do that.
With Dyche set to come in, it should now enable Everton to refocus on the Gordon deal. Selling him will generate more funds for Dyche to spend, and he definitely needs it with his new club staring relegation in the face.
It was a toss up between Dyche and Marcelo Bielsa. However, the former Leeds boss reportedly turned down the move. That looks like it could be good news for Newcastle too, as Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope has claimed that the 67-year-old had indicated that he would want to keep Gordon if he had took the job.
But with Bielsa now out of the equation, Gordon should be free to make the move he wants.
While all this has been going on, there has been huge debate over the winger’s whereabouts. He has missed three days of training with Everton, two of which were seemingly not planned by the club.
However, he is at Finch Farm on Friday, ending his training ground hiatus. Whether or not it is his final appearance there before heading to the North East remains to be seen.
