Newcastle United are reportedly considering a late swoop for Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa.

According to Foot Mercato, the Magpies are mulling over a move for the France international, who is completely out of favour at the Parc des Princes.

The 29-year-old has played just nine minutes of football so far this season.

Injuries and also the summer arrival of Nuno Mendes has resulted in him hardly getting a look in.

Both Newcastle and West Ham are tracking the player, who will make a decision very soon.

Kurzawa is one of several left-backs Newcastle have been linked with this month.

Recently there was a lot of talk about Mitchel Bakker making a move to St. James’ Park, but that appears to have gone cold.

Robin Gosens was also a target, but he has joined Inter Milan. There was also mention of Sassuolo star Rogerio.

It seems Newcastle are determined to strengthen that position, with Jamal Lewis and Matt Ritchie having failed to convince this term. Paul Dummett is now back from injury, but doesn’t offer a great deal going forwards.

Layvin Kurzawa would be a risky signing by Newcastle

Kurzawa has been with PSG for a number of years now and proven quite a successful signing for the French giants.

He has won 17 trophies with the club, including four league titles.

He’s an experienced player who will no doubt naturally have a winner’s mentality at this point.

He’s surplus to requirements now, but Newcastle making a move for him would carry a bit of a risk.

Having played just nine minutes of football this season, it could be that it takes him some time to get some momentum going.

Newcastle need players to come in and hit the ground running immediately. Perhaps this is a player to look at again in the summer.
