A fee of €15 million (£12.5 million) has been mentioned, and apparently Rogerio has chosen Newcastle over a couple of other suitors from Europe.

Rogerio is a player whom some Newcastle fans may be familiar with.

He was actually linked with a move to the club in the summer of 2020 (The Chronicle).

Rogerio has been with Serie A outfit Sassuolo since 2017, joining from Juventus on an initial loan deal. He eventually turned that move permanent in 2019, after the club exercised their option to buy.

The star has made 114 appearances for the club to date, with 19 of those coming this season.

It seems Newcastle’s luck may finally be in with regards to signing a new left-back.

The club have reportedly also targeted Mitchel Bakker and Robin Gosens this month.

The Telegraph reported yesterday that a move for the Dutchman was off. And Gosens appears set to join Inter Milan.

Little-known Rogerio will be under pressure to deliver for Newcastle

This information certainly comes out of the blue.

It is a big claim, that Newcastle are close to agreeing a deal. Hopefully, if he is someone they really want, they can wrap up a deal quickly, with time fast running out.

Rogerio will be under immediate pressure to perform for Newcastle, should he indeed sign.

He is someone very few people know about. It would be a big risk from the club to plump for someone playing his football for a mid-table Serie A club.
