Newcastle United are interested in signing Scott McTominay from Manchester United this summer, and it looks like he could be a player who Erik ten Hag is prepared to sell.

McTominay was a target for Newcastle during the January transfer window, but Manchester United turned down the Magpies’ approach. Eddie Howe has not been put off though, and is planning a fresh move.

It has been claimed that Newcastle are going to try to sign the midfielder yet again, with the idea that his arrival would allow Bruno Guimaraes to play higher up the pitch. McTominay is well liked by the Toon hierarchy, with Howe admiring his ball-carrying ability.

He would not be a glamorous signing, but appears to be a player that Newcastle’s recruitment team are very fond of. And it sounds like they might have a chance to sign the player they crave.

Manchester United could sell Newcastle target Scott McTominay

According to the Guardian, McTominay is one of 15 Manchester United players who could be moved on this summer. Ten Hag needs to sell players to raise funds for the club’s summer transfer activity, and that could result in McTominay leaving.

Other players mentioned include Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire. They are looking to get rid of some big names, and there will be pressure on the Red Devils to sell – especially with the takeover saga still rumbling on in the background.

That could create an opening for Newcastle, who have failed on two occasions to bring in McTominay. Man United have never been keen to send him to St James’ Park, despite the 26-year-old being interested in the move.

Newcastle officials really like McTominay, and some pundits believe it would be a good move. He was described as the ‘perfect’ signing by Danny Murphy, who thinks he would add great depth to Howe’s squad.

That is one of the reasons why he could be a smart addition, and it looks like his Manchester United career could soon be coming to an end. They need to sell, and they might have to let him join a club they have recently refused to do business with.
