Newcastle United have recently been linked with signing Julian Brandt from Borussia Dortmund, and the midfielder has now made an announcement about his future.

It was claimed in Germany that Newcastle are interested in signing Brandt this summer, as they eye attacking reinforcements ahead of potentially playing in the Champions League.

The report added that the 26-year-old is a fan of English football and is keen to play in the Premier League at some point in his career. However, the latest news coming out of Dortmund suggests that is something that won’t be happening in the immediate future.

Julian Brandt signs new Borussia Dortmund contract

It has now been confirmed that Brandt is staying with Borussia Dortmund. He has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga giants that will keep him at Signal Iduna Park until the summer of 2026.

The midfielder spoke to Dortmund’s official website as part of the announcement, and outlined his desire to win silverware with the club in the coming years.

“I’m looking forward to the next few years in black and yellow and I’m sure we’ll have the opportunity to celebrate something big together,” he said.

Newcastle will have to look elsewhere

Brandt’s comments show that he is going nowhere in the near future, which means Newcastle will need to look elsewhere.

He was only tentatively linked with a move to St James’ Park, with Arsenal and Tottenham also credited with an interest in the Germany international.

But he is staying put for now, despite his reported desire to play in England.

When rumours of Brandt to Newcastle first emerged, it looked like he would be an alternative to James Maddison. The Leicester City superstar is a major Toon target, but Tottenham are leading the chase to sign him at the moment.

With Maddison potentially off to Tottenham and Brandt going nowhere, Newcastle will have to look elsewhere for an attacking midfielder. Sporting CP’s Pedro Goncalves was recently linked with the Magpies, while there continues to be rumours about Mason Mount.

With Champions League football potentially on the horizon, it is going to be a very interesting summer transfer window on Tyneside. But it will not include Brandt joining Eddie Howe’s squad.
