Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Mykhaylo Mudryk, but will have to break the bank to sign the Ukrainian winger.
The 21-year-old is one of the most in-demand youngsters in Europe right now, having really turned heads with his performances for Shakhtar Donetsk.
Mudryk has been excellent in the Champions League, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the group stage. He has also been doing well in the league, boasting 10 goal contributions in just nine games.
It’s this form that has attracted interest from the likes of Newcastle, who are now always on the lookout to sign young stars who can grow and develop further at St James’ Park.
It was recently claimed by i News that the Magpies are seriously interested in the wide forward, who was valued at £50million at the time.
However, it now looks like it will cost even more to sign him in January.
Romano shares how much Shakhtar want for Mudryk
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Shakhtar’s stance regarding Mudryk.
“There is a possibility [that he leaves in January], but it depends on the price,” Romano said.
“When I see around 45, 50million Euros – no. Shakhtar want way more than this.
“They consider Mudryk one of the best talents in the world, especially in his position. And this is why they want around 65, 70million for Mudryk. No less than this. The price will be really high.”
Newcastle might be priced out of Mudryk
Romano’s suggested fee converted from Euros to Pounds is between £57million and £61.4million. And that would make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.
The record currently stands at £63million, which is how much the Toon owners paid Real Sociedad to sign Alexander Isak during the summer.
While the club are looking to sign a winger in January, it feels unlikely that they will almost match the huge fee that they splashed out on Isak.
There has been speculation that Newcastle could go big in the winter transfer market, with hope that PIF will be motivated to go one step further thanks to the team’s sensational form.
However, that might not be the case. The Telegraph recently stated that Newcastle do not plan on spending big money in January. If that is true then there is surely no chance of Mudryk moving to the North East.
That is a shame, as he is a real talent, and could go on to become even better in black and white.
While he might be too expensive in January, that might not be the case in the summer. So let’s hope no one swoops in and lands him in the new year.
