Newcastle United have recently been linked with signing Mykhaylo Mudryk, and are reportedly considering a January move.

The 21-year-old has had a blistering start to the season with Shakhtar Donetsk. He has been on fire in the Champions League, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He has got huge potential, and is a ‘serious talent‘ according to Shakhtar’s director of football Darijo Srna.

The winger has got plenty of European clubs on red alert, and one of them is Newcastle.

Eddie Howe needed a wide forward in the summer but didn’t get one, so the Magpies will therefore be looking to bring one in when the January transfer window opens.

And i News claim that Dan Ashworth is considering a £50million move for Mudryk when 2023 arrives.

That would be huge money to spend in January, and another statement of intent after the owners broke the club’s transfer record in the summer to sign Alexander Isak.

Mudryk move would take Newcastle owners’ spending beyond £250m

If Newcastle do sign Mudryk for £50million, he would become the Magpies’ second most expensive signing ever behind Isak.

That fee would see the Toon owners reach another milestone in terms of spending. They have already spent just over £200million since arriving at St James’ Park almost a year ago.

PIF have invested a lot of money during two transfer windows, and they could surpass the £250million mark if they bring in Mudryk in January. That would mean they have spent a quarter of a billion pounds on new players since buying their club.

In contrast, they have barely recouped any money from players sales. That is a reflection on the squad the owners inherited and Mike Ashley’s previous transfer policy.

While the spending perhaps hasn’t been as lavish as expected given the tag of ‘richest club in the world’, the owners have really laid down a marker within the limits of financial fair play.

Signing Mudryk for £50million would be another landmark arrival, as the Ukrainian is being tipped to become a star. Howe needs a player like him out wide, with Newcastle’s current wingers outside of Allan Saint-Maximin struggling.

But will they be able to bring Mudryk to St James’ Park? It will be difficult given the amount of competition.
