Newcastle transfer news: Chelsea plan to sell Christian Pulisic this summer

Newcastle United have been linked with signing Christian Pulisic for the past two transfer windows, and he is now set to be available this summer.

That is according to ESPN, who claim that the USA international will lead an exodus at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The report states that Chelsea are going to listen to offers for Pulisic, and have no plans to offer him a contract extension. His current deal expires in the summer of 2024.

It looks like the Blues are going to cash in on the 24-year-old while they can, but ESPN add that they have accepted that they are going to make a loss. He cost £58million in 2019 from Borussia Dortmund.

The American’s time in the Premier League has not gone to plan, and it is clear that he needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Whether or not that is Newcastle United remains to be seen, but he is certainly someone who has been on the Magpies’ radar over the past year.

Newcastle wanted Christian Pulisic in the summer and January

At the start of the season, Newcastle tried and failed to sign Pulisic. He was one of multiple Chelsea players that Eddie Howe targeted, but Fabrizio Romano claimed the Magpies were ‘obsessed‘ with Pulisic in particular.

However, a deal was not agreed as Newcastle only wanted a straight loan. The attacker instead stayed at Chelsea, before being linked with a move away in January once again.

Of course, St James’ Park was listed as a rumoured destination, and one outlet even claimed that he was going to be the club’s next marquee signing.

However, once again Pulisic went nowhere. That was largely down to injury, with a knee problem stopping him from being sold despite interest from the likes of Newcastle.

Chelsea have since strengthened, meaning it is going to be almost impossible for Pulisic to force his way into the side. Therefore, it is vital that he secures a transfer this summer.

But will Newcastle be keen? Only time will tell. He has certainly been on Dan Ashworth’s radar, but the arrival of Anthony Gordon limits the Magpies’ need for another winger. It may all depend on how highly rated Pulisic is behind the scenes at Newcastle.
